Kibakichi, c'est ce que l'on appelle un "Yokai", un être mi-humain mi-démon. Devenu orphelin après la destruction de sa ville, il parcourt le Japon. Durant son périple, il s'arrête dans un petit village peuplé de Yokais. Ces derniers sont en pleine négociation avec un groupe d'humains afin de vivre en paix et faire du commerce avec eux. Malheureusement, les humains, eux, ne veulent que leur destruction. Kibakichi sera ainsi pris dans cette guerre bien malgré lui...
